Lockdown: A prescient crime thriller

A note from the author: From the Publisher

Around fifteen years ago, I found myself unable to secure a publisher for any of my written work. One of my books was set in a London that found itself at the epicenter of a global pandemic, resulting in a city-wide lockdown and the loss of thousands of lives to a deadly virus. This scenario was not a product of my imagination, but rather based on detailed pandemic planning conducted by both the British and American governments in the early 2000s.

The literary establishment at the time was incredibly skeptical of my work, deeming it unrealistic and asserting that a lockdown of such magnitude could never occur in modern-day Britain. No one was willing to publish it.

I had nearly forgotten about this particular book until a reader suggested that I write a thriller set against the backdrop of a Coronavirus lockdown. It was then that I realized I had already done just that. Suddenly, what I had penned in 2005 was no longer considered "over the top," but rather a depiction of real-life events.

When I initially wrote "Lockdown," it was met with an inability to connect with the story. However, now it seems that everyone can relate to it, as it reflects our shared experience. And after all, isn't this the role of a writer - to depict and delve into the human condition and the world that we as a human race are navigating? - Peter May, March 2020.
